Terraza Gran Hotel

Fifth-floor restaurant perched inside the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, one block from the Zócalo with direct views over the square and surrounding historic buildings. The building itself dates to the early 20th century and houses an Art Nouveau stained glass ceiling in the lobby — you'll pass through it on your way up via the original wrought-iron elevator.

The menu leans traditional Mexican — mole poblano, chamorro (braised pork shank), tacos de camarón (shrimp tacos), tuna in dried chilies — plus a weekend breakfast and brunch buffet with a spread of hot dishes, salads, and a dessert bar. Service is attentive and the space stays relatively quiet even when busy, making it easy to linger over a meal.

Reserve ahead if you're visiting during holidays or weekends, especially when the Zócalo has seasonal decorations — December brings full views of the Christmas installations. Tables near the railing offer the best sightlines, but there's a dedicated photo spot at the edge if you're seated further in.
