Tacos El Huequito

Founded in 1959 in a space so tiny it barely fit a trompo—hence the name—El Huequito claims to have installed the first vertical spit in Mexico City, making it a contender for the birthplace of tacos al pastor as we know them. The original location on Ayuntamiento still serves golden-edged pastor with pineapple, salsas that actually bring heat, and the Pastor Especial: a whole portion of meat straight from the spit that you assemble yourself at the table.

The setup is classic chilango taquería—stand at the counter outside or grab a quick table inside, order fast, eat faster. Open daily from 8am to 10pm, right across from Mercado San Juan.
