Estanquillo Museum (Terraza)

This four-story museum houses the personal collection of renowned chronicler Carlos Monsiváis — caricatures, photographs, prints, and artifacts that trace Mexico's popular culture, political history, and everyday life. The rooftop terrace, home to Kato Café, offers one of the best panoramic views in Centro Histórico, looking out onto the Templo de San Felipe Neri (La Profesa) and the Neoclassical façade of Hotel Diligencias with its Greek sculptures and massive clock.

Admission is free, and exhibitions rotate regularly. The museum opened in 2006 and celebrated its 20th anniversary recently. The terrace café serves affordably priced coffee and light bites, though seating fills up fast on weekends. Note that photography with professional or semi-professional cameras (including action cameras like GoPro) is restricted on the terrace.
