Mama Rumba

The Roma Norte location of Mama Rumba is the most popular of three in the city, drawing dancers Wednesday through Saturday for live Cuban salsa and son performed by a rotating roster of bands, most notably Charanga One. Open from 8:45pm to 3am, the club kicks off each night with a structured salsa class before the main stage act — a good way to warm up if you're rusty or new to the style.

The small dance floor gets crowded, especially on weekends, and seating fills fast; arrive early if you want a table, which typically require a bottle purchase. Wednesdays and Thursdays tend to be less packed than Fridays and Saturdays, making them easier nights to actually move. There's a cover charge, and prices run on the higher end, but the live music and energy justify it if you're serious about dancing.
