El Cantoral

Designed by architect Gerardo Broissin, this striking concert hall takes its shape from the movement of an orchestra conductor's baton — five concrete slabs that rise and fall across the facade. The space was originally founded by the Sociedad Mexicana de Autores y Compositores (Mexican Society of Authors and Composers), and today it hosts everything from rock and regional Mexican music to boleros, pop, classical concerts, expositions, and festivals including the popular Candlelight series.

Capacity ranges from 220 to 848 depending on the seating configuration, which includes orchestra seats, balconies, lateral boxes, suites, and a choir section. The adjustable acoustic system adapts to different musical genres, and the sight lines are strong from every section — even the back rows have clear views of the stage. The building incorporates sustainable design features including rainwater capture, reduced carbon emissions, and energy and water savings.

Arrive early if you're attending a performance, as entry can get backed up close to show time. The venue runs valet parking, and there's a lobby bar serving snacks (popcorn, chips, candy), coffee, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at typical concert-venue pricing. It's a 10-minute walk from Metro Coyoacán.
